No. 8 - Act II - Introduction, Recit. & Canzonet - "Awake, Aladdin."

MIDI File

Queen of Dreams: Awake, Aladdin! for now breaks the spell,
Two thousand years have vanished since it fell.
Awake, Aladdin! mount your throne again!
For mortal feet are treading your domain.
Aladdin: Oh, pardon me, I've been asleep, me-thinks,
Vizier: Your majesty has taken forty winks.
Aladdin: So soft your song, That I in slumber strayed,
Therefore I beg, resume your serenade.
Chorus: Above the slim minaret
Two stars of twilight glow.
The lute and bright castanet
Sound in the dusk below.
Aladdin: Gulnare, look from thy lattice.
Chorus: Gulnare, look from thy lattice.
Aladdin: Gulnare, Gulnare,
Chorus: Gulnare.
Aladdin: Tho' loud the call for pray'r,
Hear the muezzin's cry.
Chorus: La la la.
Aladdin: Far from the mosque I fare, Swift to my love I fly,
Chorus: La la la.
Aladdin: What need of mosque have I,
Here is a fairer shrine,
Each pray'r a tender sigh,
Turn not thine ear from mine,
(with sopranos:) Gulnare, stars of twilight glow,
We are waiting here below,
Gulnare, here is a fairer shrine,
Aladdin: Turn not thine eyes from mine, Gulnare,
Ensemble: Now through the nearing night,
Four stars in glory rise,
Two, the pale heaven's light,
Two are thy shining eyes.
Now through the nearing night,
Four stars in glory rise,
Two, the pale heaven's light,
Two are thy shining eyes.
Gulnare, Gulnare, Gulnare.
