No. 21 - Song - Hawkins

MIDI File

Hawkins: In these would-be clever days
Ev'rything is art;
In a thousand diff'rent ways
It plays a leading part.
At debates and social talks
Art is in the air,
Why, you meet it in your walks,
Art is ev'rywhere.
"That's art," you say, "true art!"
That little word is better
Than a diagram or chart.
When you wish to criticise,
You have only to look wise,
And exclaim with open eyes:
"That's art!"
"That's art," you say, "true art!"
That little word is better
Than a diagram or chart.
When you wish to criticise,
You have only to look wise,
And exclaim with open eyes:
"That's art!"

  In the ranks of vaudeville,
Art is most intense,
You can go and get your fill
All for fifty cents.
Artists of the song and dance,
Artist acrobats,
Artist vitascope perchance,
Artist dogs and cats.
That's art, that is, true art!
I would like to be artistic
But I haven't got the heart.
You have only to appear
In a cake-walk on your ear,
Then on ev'ry side you hear:
"That's art!"
That's art, that is, true art!
I would like to be artistic
But I haven't got the heart.
You have only to appear
In a cake-walk on your ear,
Then on ev'ry side you hear:
"That's art!"
