No. 5 - Entrance and Song - Pickwick and Chorus - "Coach Arrival."

MIDI File

Chorus: What's the latest news from town,
Oh! what has taken place in London lately?
Who is born and who is dead?
We want to hear the news!
How's the King and how's the Royal Family?
We're interested greatly.
Men: Who's the horse that won the Derby?
What's the betting on the races?
What has Parliament to say
About our latest war with France?
Ladies: What's the latest Paris fashion
Seen in jewels, silks and laces?
Have you brought some nice new music
And the last invented dance?
All: What's the latest news from town?
Oh! what has taken place in London lately?
Who is born and who is dead?
Please tell us, don't refuse.
What's the newest style in Piccadilly?
We are interested greatly.
Tell us all you know of town,
We want to hear the news.

Pickwick: Now a club to be successful must be started in just right,
So as chairman they elected me.
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Hear! hear!
Pickwick: And to aid me in my philosophic, philanthropic fight,
As committee I've selected three.
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Hear! hear!
Pickwick: We have promised to alleviate each man's unhappy lot,
And in ev'rybody's cause we are united.
So that whether you are suffering from any wrongs or not,
The Pickwick Club will see that you are righted.
So do not fear,
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Hear! hear!
Pickwick: Our path is clear,
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Hear! hear!
Pickwick: And in the way of duty we have never tarried.
A vote of confidence I'll try...
all who believe in me say...
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Aye!
Pickwick: Those against the motion? Carried!
Chorus: So do not fear,
Men: So do not fear,
All: Their path is clear,
Men: Their path is clear,
All: and in the way of duty they have never tarried.
A vote of confidence he'll try...
all who believe in him say Aye!
There are none against the motion, so it's carried!

Pickwick: You can scarcely put a limit on what we propose to do.
The plan that we have formed's immense.
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Hear! hear!
Pickwick: Of investigating ev'rything and ev'rybody too,
And entirely at our own expense!
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Hear! hear!
Pickwick: We shall look for an elixir that will keep us very young.
We have got a scheme for filtering the ocean.
And by inspecting very carefully a woman's tongue,
we'll find the secret of perpetual motion.
Within a year...
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Hear! hear!
Pickwick: We'll make it clear...
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Hear! hear!
Pickwick: What is the reason that old maids have never married.
Shall we find out the reason why?
All who desire me to say...
Tupman, Snodgrass & Winkle:
  Aye!
Pickwick: Those against the motion? Carried!
Chorus: Within a year
Men: Within a year
All: They'll make it clear.
Men: They'll make it clear.
All: What is the reason why old maids have never married.
Shall they find out the reason why?
All who desire him to say Aye!
There are none against the motion, so it's carried!
