No. 23 - Song - Queen and Chorus - "Miss Innocent."

MIDI File

Queen: I'm a little girl, you see,
Miss Innocent my name is,
That's who I am!
Chorus: Oh, really.
Queen: That's what I'm not,
Chorus: Oh! dear!
Queen: If you'd know what I can be,
And what my fav'rite game is,
Listen to me?
Chorus: Much better try not to hear.
Queen: I think it amusing to quarrel with mama.
Chorus: Mama.
Queen: But find it is best to conciliate Papa,
Chorus: Papa.
Queen: But as for them,
And my governess as well,
Oh, they don't count.
Chorus: Oh, they don't count!
What her people must put up with,
Who can tell.
Queen: Oh, my dears, I'm wonderfully happy,
Life has just begun,
One eye on my book, and then the other wide awake,
And looking out for fun.
And after all, one's only young a short time.
So, in that event,
If there's a child who means to have her fling,
It's little Miss Innocent.
Chorus: Oh, my dears, she's wonderfully happy,
Life has just begun,
One eye on her book, and then the other wide awake,
And looking out for fun.
And after all, one's only young a short time.
So, in that event,
If there's a child who means to have her fling,
It's little Miss Innocent.

Queen: I can read quite easily,
But spelling's rather baulking.
Cat's spelt with C,
Chorus: Not always,
Queen: Sometimes with K
Chorus: instead.
Queen: Then I've read in history
King Charles the First went walking,
And talked half-an-hour,
Chorus: After they cut off his head.
Queen: I'm fairly contented, but wish it were the rule
Chorus: The rule,
Queen: That dear little boys were allowed with me at school,
Chorus: At school.
Queen: But I don't care,
Just you wait a bit and see,
Till I come out,
Chorus: When she comes out.
Oh, good gracious, what a handfull she will be.
Queen: Oh, my dears, I'm wonderfully happy,
Life has just begun,
One eye on my book, and then the other wide awake,
And looking out for fun.
And after all, one's only young a short time.
So, in that event,
If there's a child who means to have her fling,
It's little Miss Innocent.
Chorus: Oh, my dears, she's wonderfully happy,
Life has just begun,
One eye on her book, and then the other wide awake,
And looking out for fun.
And after all, one's only young a short time.
So, in that event,
If there's a child who means to have her fling,
It's little Miss Innocent.

Queen: I think sums are rather fun!
Of marriage they remind me,
Twice one are two.
Chorus: Not often.
Queen: Sometimes they're three,
Chorus: We know.
Queen: I'll invent the rule of one,
'Ere any man shall bind me,
And I'll be the one,
Chorus: That means that she'll boss the show.
Queen: In Westminster Abbey, they'll ring the wedding bells,
Chorus: The bells,
Queen: A bevy of bridesmaids, and quite a crowd of swells,
Chorus: Of swells,
Queen: A nice long train, orange blossoms in my hair,
Mama's lace veil,
Chorus: Mama's lace veil,
Oh, depend upon it, we shall all be there.
Queen: Oh, my dears, I'm wonderfully happy,
Life has just begun,
One eye on my book, and then the other wide awake,
And looking out for fun.
And after all, one's only young a short time.
So, in that event,
If there's a child who means to have her fling,
It's little Miss Innocent.
Chorus: Oh, my dears, she's wonderfully happy,
Life has just begun,
One eye on her book, and then the other wide awake,
And looking out for fun.
And after all, one's only young a short time.
So, in that event,
If there's a child who means to have her fling,
It's little Miss Innocent.
