No. 14 - Act II Opening Chorus

MIDI File

Chorus: Madly and merrily here we go,
Tripping on light and fantastic toe,
Dresses of ev'ry sort and kind,
E'er designed;
You will find
Cavaliers, Indians, or Japanese,
Pierrots, and grim Mephistopheles.
Goddesses with electric lights,
Imps and sprites,
Armoured knights,
Florentine nobles, Spanish Lords,
Carrying cloaks and swords.
These funny disguises
Cause many surprises.
You are often in doubt, and can't make out
Some friend or relation,
For dear Cousin Mary
Dress'd up as a fairy
Doesn't look quite the same,
You're not to blame
Supposing you ask her name.
Some villainous fellow
As fierce as Othello
May turn out when you speak
To be the meekest man in creation,
Your very own father
May frighten you, rather,
As the veriest buccaneer afloat,
who looks as if, as if he'd cut your throat!

  Madly and merrily here we go,
Tripping on light and fantastic toe,
Dresses of ev'ry sort and kind,
E'er designed;
You will find
Cavaliers, Indians, or Japanese,
Pierrots, and grim Mephistopheles.
Florentine nobles, Spanish Lords,
Carrying their cloaks and swords!
