"Downy Jail-birds of a Feather."

MIDI File

Ravannes: We're a philanthropic couple, be it known,
Cadeaux: Light-finger'd, sticking to whate'er we touch,
Ravannes: In the int'rest of humanity alone,
Of wealth relieving those who have too much;
Cadeaux: The sour old gent whose worship vile is dross,
We hate to see a wallowing in tin.
Ravannes: It ain't 'cause gain to us to him is loss;
We eases him, 'cause avarice is sin.
Both: Downy jail-birds of a feather,
We are shifters, we are shifters,
Working skilfully together,
Through the wicked world we roam;
Easing many a mortal burden,
Kinder coves were never heard on
But a start you'll take our word on,
Charity begins at home.

Ravannes: When the mashers on the spree we often prig,
Cadeaux: From pocket ev'ry stiver, nothing less,
Ravannes: He would only drink and fight and go the rig,
His constitution ruin to excess;
Cadeaux: His ring and things and finery we expect,
For stuck up pride in such things isn't good.
Ravannes: And when his watch we carefully annex,
'Tis only 'cause we know the Bobby would.
Both: Downy jail-birds of a feather,
We are shifters, we are shifters,
Working skilfully together,
Through the wicked world we roam;
Easing many a mortal burden,
Kinder coves were never heard on
But a start you'll take our word on,
Charity begins at home.
