MIDI File

Chorus: Saturday afternoon!
The welcome bell gives warning,
Bus'ness is done, and we'll have fun
Right up to Monday morning!
So you will find us soon
In quite a new edition,
Out for the day, seeing a play
Or the Exhibition!
It will be sweet if we can meet at the Exhibition!
Everyone is bound to go,
Off to the Franco-British show,
Yes, the gorgeous Franco-British show!
And there you will see
What we can do when free,
Outside the doors Of Garrod's Stores.
Customers: Now we will go with all we've got,
Some of us paid, and some have not!
Shopping is done, so now come on,
We never stay when girls are gone!
Home with our hats and frocks and frills,
Husbands will have to pay the bills,
What will they say
When they must pay?
What will they say?
Saturday afternoon!
To all the winds we scatter,
Some for weekends to stay with friends,
Flirting and fun and chatter!
For in July or June We like an intermission!
Order our cars, 'phone to Paillard's
At the Exhibition!
It will be sweet if we can meet at the Exhibition!
Everyone is bound to go,
Off to the Franco-British show,
Yes, the gorgeous Franco-British show!
And there you will see
What we can do when free,
Outside the doors Of Garrod's Stores.
Bridesmaids: Fancy Lady Betty,
What an awful thing!
She is sending back today
Her engagement ring.
It is really petty
Spoiling all our fun,
Just because she dares to say
That he is not the one!
Betty: No matter what I have to face,
This marriage won't take place.
Chorus: It's a disgrace!
Betty: This marriage will not take place.
It's romance, and the chance of a life,
When a hero wants me as wife!
And my heart gives a start as it throbs,
For a man that burgles and robs,
Tho' his cause all the laws may condemn,
I declare that I care not for them!
Now I can discover
Such a thrilling lover,
I will jump at the chance of romance!
I've broken off the match today
In spite of darling mother,
Tho' all the papers seem to say
We're marrying each other!
You see us there, the future pair —
Eynsford: Mary, won't you listen to me Mary —
I really love you, though I may have told you fibs.
Mary: Mary will not listen, she is wary —
You mustn't ever call me Mary,
For my name's Miss Gibbs.
Chorus: Mary doesn't mean to be his Mary,
She will not listen and she says he's telling fibs.
Mary is a maiden who is wary,
She never will be Lady Mary, she'll remain Miss Gibbs!
She will not be his bride,
And vainly he implores,
For they have proper pride,
The girls at Garrod's Stores.
Hughie: Tell us where you hid it?
Where's the precious cup?
Timothy: It was you that did it,
You must hunt it up!
Beavis: It was you who took it,
You must find it, too!
Hughie: If he chose to book it,
What am I to do?
Timothy: Begging of your pardon,
If the man is near,
With my big bombardon I will bring him here!
Betty: Oh! Hughie, I've done it!
Hughie: And I too! I've done it!
Betty: So take my hand,
You've won it, it is yours!
Toplady: Allong, marchong, Miss Jeanie!
Jeanne: Me voici! Me voici!
Timothy: She isn't talking any,
She's with me! she's with me!
Toplady: I object to this intrusion!
Get out now! get out now!
Chorus: What is all of this confusion
About now? about now? What is it?
Hughie: I agree, The case appears a trifle shady,
For you see I admit I took the beastly cup! That's so!
I would give it up, You know,
But it isn't here! It's only fun,
Besides, you see that it was done
For the lady! That's very clear!
Chorus: We agree, The case appears a trifle shady,
For you see That he admits he took the cup!
Ladies: That's so!
Men: Yes, he admits he did it,
All: He must give it up!
Ladies: You know!
Men: But where can he have hid it?
All: For it isn't here,
He says it's fun,
And he declares that it was done
For a lady! That isn't clear.
Where is the cup?
Hughie: You had the cup!
Chorus: You had the cup!
Others: You had the cup!
Chorus: It's very clear you had the cup,
So bring it here, and give it up!
Timothy: He has the cup, Not me!
Others: He's got the cup!
Chorus: He's got the cup!
Others: So take him up!
Chorus: We'll catch him up!
Come along with us lads and lasses,
Before the playtime passes,
We have got one free day,
We'll enjoy that while we may,
So the upper and middle classes
Will join the merry masses.
We'll all have fun before we're done,
So come along ev'ryone.
Jeanne: Here's the last Parisian hat,
Chorus: The neatest and sweetest,
Jeanne: I have kept it safe on the shelf,
For I mean to wear it myself,
Catch me selling one such as that,
Chorus: She caught it and bought it,
Jeanne: All the people will know
When I go to the show.
All: She's the one they're all looking at
When she has that hat.
Jeanne & Chorus:
Come away to the City of White,
The City of White,
You will find it a dream of delight,
By day or by night.
The Court of Honour's fine,
And, if it's in your line,
Pray take a peep At where they keep
The elephants and great big tigers.
You can roam just wherever you please,
Wherever you please,
Pay a call on the Senegalese
(Or people like these)
And if you only stop!
Till shades of evening come,
There'll be fireworks in the Stadi-a-dium, Um, um!
Come away to the City of White,
The City of White,
You will find it a dream of delight,
By day or by night.
The Court of Honour's fine,
And, if it's in your line,
Pray take a peep At where they keep
The elephants and great big tigers.
You can roam just wherever you please,
Wherever you please,
Pay a call on the Senegalese
(Or people like these)
And if you only stop!
Till shades of evening come,
There'll be fireworks in the Stadi-a-dium, Um, um!
