No. 18 - Duet - Mary and Timothy - "Our Farm"

MIDI File

Mary: I'd like to tell you all about the farm we call our home,
It's nice to have a home, you must confess.
Timothy: The aspect's simply perfect and the soil's a lovely loam;
It measures half an acre, more or less!
Mary: Then we've got a little paddock quite conveniently near,
Though of course that paddock isn't very wide.
Timothy: When the donkey rubs his nose against the railing over here,
Well, his tail is swishing round the other side!
Both: It's a nice little farm and you won't do any harm
If you come along and look at it one day.
Timothy: And I'm open to a bet,
If next summer isn't wet,
We shall gather quite a basketful of hay.
Both: Though the place isn't big,
We've a piggy-wiggy-wig,
And a garden with a lot of pretty flow'rs.
Timothy: And we've got a giddy goose
Who is always on the loose;
Both: Oh! you'd love a little farm like ours!

Mary: We bought a pig one summer when our funds were running high,
A pig upon whose ways you could depend.
Timothy: He used to look so handsome in his cosy little sty,
He was really more a brother than a friend.
Mary: There was something sympathetic in that animal, you know;
Why he even used to answer to our call!
Timothy: When the butcher came to take him, well, we couldn't let him go,
So we never had our bacon after all!
Both: It's a nice little farm and you won't do any harm
If you come and try a sample of our cream;
Timothy: And I'm sure you will admit
That our crops are looking fit,
While our cabbages you'll call a perfect dream!
Both: Though the place isn't big,
We've a piggy-wiggy-wig,
And a garden with a lot of pretty flow'rs.
Timothy: And we keep a hive of bees —
If you doubt me look at these!
Both: Oh! you'd love a little farm like ours!

Mary: We started in a quiet way a little poultry run;
Our birds are really strong upon the leg.
Timothy: And on Tuesdays in the summer time we have a lot of fun
In hunting round the farm to find the egg!
Mary: Then we bought a champion rooster guaranteed to make a noise,
Just to wake us in the morning now and then.
Timothy: But he proved a disappointment for we thought he'd lost his voice,
Till we found he was a Cochin China hen!
Both: It's a nice little farm and you won't do any harm
If you come and have a tumble in the hay.
Timothy: We've a cow you would applaud
And we always call her Maud,
'Cos she comes into the garden ev'ry day!
Both: We've a spade and a hoe
And some turnips in a row,
Which are doing very nicely in the showers;
Timothy: And we now intend to keep
Just a half-a-brace of sheep;
Both: Oh! you'd love a little farm like ours!
