No. 4a - Recit.

MIDI File

Landlord: Your worship's breakfast waits —
Lionel: Ladies, you'll join me in it.
Landlord, two extra plates,
We'll follow in a minute.

No. 5 - Quartette - "But oh, beware."

Mirabeau: But, oh, beware the fierce Sir Miles!
Little he'll care for tears or smiles,
Or lover's protestations.
Lionel: Chere Mad'moiselle, when all is said,
He can't compel a girl to wed —
We'll wear him down by patience.
Quartet: We'll wear him down by patience.
For love is love and Cupid's King
And like the bird that trills in spring,
We'll chance the wind and weather.
While she is thine/mine and thou/I are/am hers
It matters little what occurs
So long as we're/they're together, together.

Alice: But, oh, 'tis hard to wear him down,
One can't ignore a father's frown;
One tires of bread and water.
Lionel: Have patience, love, 'tis not for life;
Remember you will be my wife —
Forget you are his daughter.
Quartet: Forget you are his daughter.
For love is love and Cupid's King
And like the bird that trills in spring,
We'll chance the wind and weather.
While she is thine/mine and thou/I are/am hers
It matters little what occurs
So long as we're/they're together, together.
