No. 16 - Act II Opening Chorus - "How do you do?"

MIDI File

Chorus A: How do you do?
Chorus B: And you, my dear?
Chorus A: You rode, no doubt,
Chorus B: I came by post.
Chorus A: All the world and his wife are here,
Chorus B: Sir Miles is such a capital host.
Chorus A: But isn't it pleasant, bright and gay!
Chorus B: And isn't a wedding like this romantic!
Chorus A: I'm told that they only met today,
All: And already their love...
Basses: Already their love...
Tenors: ...their love is something frantic.
All: Such wealth, such luxury, such display
I never saw in my life before,
A daughter's not married ev'ry day,
I only wish he'd a dozen more.
Ladies: Did you ever feel such a nipping cold?
If my nose is red, it will not be strange.
Basses: I fear the frost is going to hold,
No hunting now till the moon shall change.
Ladies: Did you ever know such a fearful road?
It was ice and snow to the very gate.
Men: The snow's at fault if we are rather late,
if we are rather late.
All: Such wealth, such luxury, such display
I never saw in my life before,
A daughter's not married ev'ry day,
I only wish he'd a dozen more.
A daughter's not married ev'ry day,
I wish he'd a dozen more.
