No. 2 - Song - Denise and Chorus - "The Matrimonial Pool."

MIDI File

Denise: When in the matrimonial pool
A maiden goes a-fishing,
Chorus: A-fishing, fishing, fishing!
Denise: She seldom catches as a rule
The prize for which she's wishing.
Chorus: She's wishing, wishing, wishing!
Denise: But Josephine, although she found
That lots of fish came swarming round,
Turned up her haughty little nose
And murmured "I want none of those!"
She watched the smaller fry
Go slowly swimming by.
Here a minnow, there a sprat,
Humble little fish like that.
"Oh!" cried Sister Josephine,
"These are not the sort I mean.
I'll be quite content to wait
Keeping calm and cool,
Youth and beauty are my bait,
And I feel as sure as fate
That other fish and finer fish
Are swimming in the pool!"

Denise: I fancy she enjoyed the sport
And found it most exciting,
Chorus: Exciting, 'citing, 'citing!
Denise: When hungry fish of ev'ry sort
So eagerly were biting.
Chorus: A-biting, biting, biting!
Denise: Apprentices and men at arms
Were all attracted by her charms,
And merchants begged of her to wed
But Josephine just tossed her head,
Till someone swam in view,
Most rich and noble too.
Not a minnow, not a sprat,
Something bigger far than that.
"Ah!" cried Sister Josephine
"That's the sort of fish I mean."
Acting just as she had planned,
Keeping calm and cool,
Soon she had him well in hand,
Played and brought him safe to land,
A splendid fish, a lordly fish,
The finest in the pool!
Chorus: Not a minnow, not a sprat,
Something bigger far than that.
"Ah!" cried Sister Josephine
"That's the sort of fish I mean."
Acting just as she had planned,
Keeping calm and cool,
Soon she had him well in hand,
Played and brought him safe to land,
A splendid fish, a lordly fish,
The finest in the pool!
