No. 4 - Quintet - Josephine, Denise, Marquis, Comte and Miradoux -
"Temper"

MIDI File

Josephine: You'll kindly understand, Sir,
That I will not be mocked at.
Miradoux: She does get out of hand, Sir,
There's nothing to be shocked at.
Comte: Although you love her dearly,
You surely ought to speak up;
Marquis: The whole affair is merely
A storm within a teacup.
All (Josephine's words):
  What a pity Le Grand Marquis
Thinks it witty to jeer at me.
When upset in such a fashion
Then I get in quite a passion.
'Pon my word it may seem absurd,
Still it's not a crime;
If my faults they make too much of,
Oh, I can't avoid a touch of
Temper, temper, temper, temper, temper
All the time.

Marquis: Come, mad'moiselle, it might be well
To let me just explain.
Josephine: Pooh-pooh, Sir, to you, Sir,
Miradoux: Good Lord, she's off again.
Denise: Oh, Josephine, you cannot mean
The cruel words you say;
Josephine: I do, miss, and who, miss,
Asked your opinion, pray?
Comte: It's what I've always dreaded,
This marriage means disaster.
Marquis: Just wait until we're wedded,
You'll soon find out who's master.
All: What a pity it is to see
Maiden pretty as well can be
When she's let her angry passion
Quite upset her in this fashion.
'Pon my word it may seem absurd,
Still it's not a crime;
Faults like this we make too much of;
Oh, it's only just a touch of
Temper, temper, temper, temper, temper
All the time.
Temper, temper, haughty temper,
Wilful, girlish, naughty temper,
naughty temper, naughty temper,
naughty temper, naughty temper,
naughty, naughty, naughty, naughty temper,
naughty temper, naughty temper
All the time.
