No. 25 - Duet - Hilda and de l'Orme

MIDI File

de l'Orme: Je vous adore, ev'ry day more,
Oh! how I long for the day when you're mine!
Ah! ma petite, you are so sweet,
Hilda: It's plain that I've got my fish well on the line.
de l'Orme: Then when I make you
My wife, I will take you
Over the sea to my lovely Paree.
On all sides I'll show you,
Why, all France shall know you.
Hilda: France must come here if it wants to see me!
de l'Orme: Viens à Paris, viens, ma cherie,
Hilda: That's all very well, but just think of the sea,
de l'Orme: Eh bien, c'est ma patrie,
Hilda: I dare-say that may be, but
Both: I'll take good care that you stay here with me!

de l'Orme: Endless, caresses,
Hats and new dresses,
All that I can I will give you, my dear;
Dancing and dining,
Cheques all day signing,
Hilda: Don't you think you could do that over here?
de l'Orme: London is rather
Too near to your father,
So come to Paris, it is just paradise.
Hilda: All so inviting,
But much too exciting,
Don't you think Kensington sounds quite as nice?
de l'Orme: Viens à Paris,
Viens, ma cherie,
Hilda: That's all very well, but just think of the sea,
de l'Orme: Eh bien, c'est ma patrie,
I dare-say that may be, but
Both: I'll take good care that you stay here with me!
