Printed, from a manuscript found after Sullivan’s death, in “Hymn Tunes Composed by Arthur Sullivan”, Novello, 1902.

1 O Love that wilt not let me go,   2 O Light that followest all my way,
I rest my weary soul in Thee:       I yield my flickering torch to Thee:
I give Thee back the life I owe,     My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in Thin ocean depths its flow       That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May richer, fuller be.         May brighter, fairer be.

3 O Joy that seekest me through pain,   4 O Cross that liftest up my head,
I cannot close my heart to Thee:       I dare not ask to fly from Thee:
I trace the rainbow through the rain,     I lay in dust, life’s glory dead,
And feel the promise is not vain,       And from the ground there blossoms red
That morn shall tearless be.         Life that shall endless be. Amen.

                George Matheson, 1842 - 1906.
