Composed for “Church Hymns with Tunes”, S.P.C.K., 1874.

1 Jesu, my Saviour, look on me,   2 Look down on me, for I am weak;
    For I am weary and oppressed;       I feel the toilsome journey’s length;
  I come to cast myself on Thee;     Thine aid omnipotent I seek;
    Thou art my Rest.       Thou art my Strength.

3 I am bewildered on my way;   4 When Satan flings his fiery darts,
    Dark and tempestuous is the night;       I look to Thee; my terrors cease;
  Oh, shed Thou forth some cheering ray;     Thy cross a hiding place imparts;
    Thou art my Light.       Thou art my Peace.

5 Standing alone on Jordan’s brink,   6 Thou wilt my every want supply
    In that tremendous latest strife,       E’en to the end, whate’er befall;
  Thou wilt not suffer me to sink;     Through life, in death, eternally,
    Thou art my Life.       Thou art my All. Amen.

Charlotte Elliott, 1789 - 1871.
