1 Our Blest Redeemer, ere he breathed   2 He came sweet influence to impart,
His tender last farewell,       A gracious willing Guest,
A Guide, a Comforter bequeathed     While he can find one humble heart
With us to dwell.       Wherein to rest.

3 And His that gentle voice we hear,   4 And every virtue we posess,
Soft as the breath of even,       And every conquest won,
That checks each fault, that calms each fear,     And every thought of holiness,
And speaks of Heaven.       Are His alone.

5 Spirit of purity anf grace,
    Our weakness, pitying see:
And make our hearts a dwelling place,
    And worthier Thee.

Harriet Auber, 1773-1862
