Marie Alexander (1892-93)

Marie Alexander spent a year on tour with the D’Oyly Carte "D" Company, from July 1892 through July 1893, performing the leading contralto roles of Widow Merton in The Vicar of Bray, and Lady Vernon in Haddon Hall.

After leaving the D’Oyly Carte, she made several appearances on the London Stage, primarily in opera, but also in pantomime and musical comedy, spanning the years from 1894 through 1909. Her roles included Armand in Rutland Barrington & A. J. Caldicott’s A Knight Errant, a one-act curtain-raiser that preceded Gilbert & Carr’s "His Excellency" at the Lyric Theatre, November 1894-January 1895.
