Mae Bruce (1887)

Mae Bruce appeared on tour as Zorah (in April) and Ruth (in May) with D'Oyly Carte's Third American Ruddygore Company in the spring of 1887. Little is known about her career in America, except that she was on tour with Robert Grau's American Celebrities in 1893, appearing as a vocalist at the Garden Theatre, New York, in August and September in "an Appropriate Drawing Room Entertainment."

In 1890, as May Bruce, she toured South America with Edwin Cleary's English Comic Opera Company, appearing in Buenas Aires, Argentina, in several roles including Hebe in H.M.S. Pinafore, Edith in The Pirates of Penzance, and Peep-Bo in The Mikado. The Company also performed for a few night in Montevideo, Uruguay. She rejoined Cleary for a second, lengthier, South American tour (June 1891-March 1892), adding the Lady Ella in Patience to her roles.
