THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Alfred Butler (1903-05)

Alfred E. Butler sang first with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "E" in 1903, going on as the Mikado of Japan in The Mikado on October 22 of that year. Company "E" was disbanded in December 1903.

He then transferred to the remaining D'Oyly Carte Principal Repertory Opera Company, where he served in the chorus from January 1904 through November 1905. He also served in the small roles of Third Yeomen and, perhaps, First Citizen in The Yeomen of the Guard and made occasional appearances in 1904 as Samuel in The Pirates of Penzance.
