THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Maude Carey (1888, 1890, 1893-98)

[Born Manchester c.1865]

Soprano Maude (or Maud) Carey (or Cary) toured with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "E" as a chorister and occasional small part player during parts of the 1880s and 1890s. She was a chorister with Carte's "E" (Pinafore and Pirates) Company in May 1888. We spot her again in the autumn of 1890 touring the British Isles with Carte's Company "D". Miss Carey resurfaced with Company "E" as Peep-Bo in The Mikado for portions of 1893, and took over briefly as Kate in The Yeomen of the Guard in February 1898 while the regular Kate, Geraldine Fitzgerald, was filling in as Elsie Maynard.
