Lilian Dundas was sixteen years old when she made her first musical success as a soloist in a concert of the Amateur Musical Union.While still in her teens she married Mr. F. Osborne Williams, teacher and composer, and after receiving further musical training devoted herself to oratorio and concert work for a few years under the name of Mme. Osborne Williams.

She adopted the name Miss Dundas when she made her dramatic debut, appearing as Little Buttercup in H.M.S. Pinafore with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "Second London" Company on a five week tour of Shoreditch and Camden Town, September 22-October 25, 1879.She also appeared as Buttercup in October (presumably the last few days) with Carte's "First 'Pinafore' Company," replacing Alice Barnett. The part was assumed by Fanny Harrison in November.
