Arthur de Jong (1892-96)

Arthur de Jong made his first appearance in a D'Oyly Carte program as the Earl of Mountararat in Iolanthe with, filling in for J. J. Fitzgibbon with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "E" in June 1892.He transferred to D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "E" in 1893, serving for the next three years in several smaller roles: Nicodemus Knock-knee in Haddon Hall (May-November 1893), Tarara in the first provincial production of Utopia Limited (December 1893-March 1895), Blazzo in The Chieftain (February-August 1895), Antonio in The Gondoliers (August 1895-March 1896), and Sam Chunk in the companion piece Captain Billy (1895).

De Jong also deputized for Walter Summers as King Paramount in Utopia Limited (September 24, 1894) and Helier Le Maistre as Giuseppe in The Gondoliers (December 28, 1895). After leaving the D'Oyly Carte organization, de Jong traveled to South Africa, where he worked as a producer, before returning to England, serving as a "director of entertainments" in Hove.
