R. H. Edgar (1885-87, 1890)

Richard H. Edgar was born Richard Horatio Marriott, son of actress Alice Marriott. He was in New York and Boston with D'Oyly Carte's First American Mikado Company (October 1885-May 1886). Edgar filled in for Fred Billington briefly as Pooh-Bah in New York in December 1885, and for the latter part of the tour was listed as Go-To. In May 1886 he was Go-To in Liverpool and Manchester with Carte's "G" (Continental) Company. From June 1886 to January 1887, when the Continental Company toured Germany and Austria, Edgar took the larger role of Pish-Tush, and was also the Usher in Trial by Jury.

Upon his return in Great Britain, Edgar was Pish-Tush for a six-week tour of Scotland with D'Oyly Carte's newly-formed "A" Company.Then from March 7 to December 19, 1887, he toured Great Britain and Ireland as Old Adam Goodheart in the first provincial production of Ruddigore.

Edgar later appeared as a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "D" from August to December 1890.
