THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Violet Frampton as Fleta in Iolanthe.

Violet Frampton (1906-07)

[born Pembroke, Wales 26 Jan 1885, died Redhill, Surrey 5 Nov 1966]

Violet Frampton, born Violet Henrietta Chevalley, took the surname of her grandmother as her stage name. She was a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy for the First London Repertory Season, December 8, 1906 to August 24, 1907. Miss Frampton filled in from time to time as Vittoria in The Gondoliers (February-March 1907), then in June of that year was assigned Fleta when Iolanthe joined the repertoire. During the last month of the season Miss Frampton also filled in briefly as the Lady Angela in Patience and Tessa in The Gondoliers. She left the Carte organization when the London Season ended.

She would continue her career in muscal theatre in more distant locales, including a tour of the Far East with the Bandmann Opera Company in 1912. Her only subsequent appearance on the London Stage came in November 1925 at the Scala, as an extra in a single Jewish Drama League performance of Israel Zangwill's historical farce The King of Schnorrers.
