Harry Gawler (1940-45)

Harry Gawler was a baritone chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company for five seasons:from August 1940 to August 1945. During his last three years he appeared from time to time as Second Citizen and Sergeant Meryll in The Yeomen of the Guard, Antonio in The Gondoliers, and Major Murgatroyd in Patience.

Gawler later appeared in London as Heywood in a revival of Hood & German's Merrie England (Princes, 1945-46), before going into grand opera at Covent Garden. There he was in Der Rosenkavalier in 1947 and Madam Butterfly in 1955 and 1957. He was married to D'Oyly Carte chorister Brenda Vaughan.
