Anne Guthrie as Phyllis in Iolanthe

Anne Guthrie (1968-70)

Soprano Anne Guthrie joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in September 1968, making the occasional appearance as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance during her first year with the Company. In September 1969, following the departure of Susan Jackson, she was promoted to principal soprano and assumed the roles of the Plaintiff in Trial by Jury, Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore, Patience in Patience, Phyllis in Iolanthe, Elsie Maynard in The Yeomen of the Guard, and Gianetta in The Gondoliers. She may be heard as Phyllis, Elsie and Gianetta on a 1970 D'Oyly Carte recording of "Songs and Snatches."

Miss Guthrie left the D'Oyly Carte in August 1970. She would later appear with Royal Opera at Covent Garden.
