THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Eve Head in The Mikado

Eve Head (1951-53)

[Born Warrington, Lancashire 14 Aug 1923]

Eva Head began her singing career with the Co-operative Amateur Operatic Society before taking private singing lessons for four years with Anne Broadhurst. Her professional stage career began with an Emile Littler tour of Annie Get Your Gun, where she met her husband, drummer Frank Whittaker. After the Littler tour she joined the D'Oyly Carte.

Miss Head was known as Eve when she served as a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company from September 1951 until February 1953. During her tenure she appeared often as Kate in The Pirates of Penzance. The birth of her son Christopher cut short her D'Oyly Carte career.

She retained her love of Gilbert & Sullivan throughout her life, performing in later years with the Fylde Musical Society, and with the Blackpool & Fylde Light Opera Society in their productions of The Yeomen of the Guard and The Gondoliers, as Inez.
