THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Kathryn Holding

Kathryn Holding (1970-73)

[Born Blackburn, Lancashire]

Mezzo-soprano Kathryn Holding trained at the Royal Manchester College of Music. An enthusiast of modern dancing, before joining the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in September 1970, she was (according to The Savoyard, September 1970) voted "Miss Shake 1969" in Italy:a unique honor, one suspects, among her D'Oyly Carte colleagues.

In September 1971 Miss Holding added the small parts of Fleta in Iolanthe and Ruth in Ruddigore to her chorus duties. She also filled in on occasion between September 1971 and June 1973, when she left the Company, as Constance Partlett in The Sorcerer, Pitti-Sing in The Mikado, and Tessa in The Gondoliers.
