Miss Howell-Hersee as Phylla in Utopia (Limited)

Maud Howell-Hersee (1893-94)

[Born Park Village, London 6 Apr 1876, died 1951]

Miss Maud Howell-Hersee was to have been the understudy to Florence Easton in the small part of Phylla in Utopia (Limited) when it opened at the Savoy on October 7, 1893. Illness prevented Miss Easton from appearing and Miss Howell-Hersee went on instead. In November Miss Easton returned and reclaimed her intended role, and Miss Howell-Hersee apparently rejoined the chorus.

Miss Howell-Hersee was the daughter of the famous soprano Rose Hersee, prima donna of the Carl Rosa Company.
