THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Marie Hunter as Patience in Patience

Marie Hunter (1881-82)

Marie Hunter's first appearance on the New York Stage was as the third of three Lady Ellas with D'Oyly Carte's American Patience Company (December 1881-March 1882) at New York's Standard Theatre. She remained at the Standard for Carte's production there of Claude Duval (March-April 1882), taking the part of Rose. Two months later (June 1882) she was back at the Standard in a non-D'Oyly Carte production of Patience, this time in the title role. She continued to appear periodically in New York in concert and in comic opera through June 1884.
