Sallie Keates (1883, 1886-87)

Sallie Keates was a mezzo-soprano and, later, a contralto chorister and understudy with at least three D'Oyly Carte touring companies in the 1880s. (Company records for this period identify her both as Sallie Keates and Pattie Keate.) Her first role was the Lady Angela in Patience with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's No. 2 "Patience" Company in August 1883. She later appeared with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "E" Company in 1886 and Carte's "D" Company in 1887. She deputized briefly as Katisha in The Mikado in May and November 1886 with "E" Company, and in September 1887 with "D" Company.
