Esme Major joined the D'Oyly Carte Repertory Opera Company as a soprano chorister in September 1918, and served until November 1919. After a year away, she joined the D'Oyly Carte "New" Opera Company in December 1921, before leaving again in June 1922.

The Company opened in Johannesburg in June 1920. A chorister and small part player, her roles on the tour included Celia in Iolanthe.
