Soprano Hylda May, full name Hylda May Shallard, was a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy for most of the First London Repertory Season, serving from January to August 1907, and for all of the Second London Repertory Season, April 1908-March 1909. In January 1909 she filled in on two occasions as Fiametta in The Gondoliers.

Miss May married a Royal Naval officer in 1915. He died during World War II, and in the 1950s she moved to the United States to be near her two daughters, both of whom had married Americans.
