Miss C. M. McFadden assumed the part of Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance with D'Oyly Carte's Second American Pirates Company in Philadelphia in March 1880. On April 12, when Pinafore replaced Pirates for the last two weeks of the Philadelphia run, Miss McFadden was Little Buttercup. The Company gave its last performance of Pinafore in Philadelphia on April 24, 1880. The next week (April 26-May 1) they appeared in Baltimore in H.M.S. Pinafore, with Miss McFadden again as the Portsmouth bumboat woman.
