|Ann Nicholson as Fiametta in The Gondoliers|
Ann Nicholson (1936, 1937-46)
[Born 10 Feb 1910, died Gateshead 13 Sep 2000]
Ann Nicholson (also known as Ivy Nicholson) served in the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus from March to June 1936. She left the Company at that point but returned a little more than a year later--in September 1937, remaining for the next nine seasons. In the seasons spanning 1938-41 she appeared on occasion in the part of Fiametta in The Gondoliers, and between 1940 and 1944 she deputized from time to time as Elsie Maynard in The Yeomen of the Guard.
In October 1944 Miss Nicholson assumed Celia in Iolanthe and Fiametta in The Gondoliers following the departure of Brenda Thompson. She appeared as Fiametta and Celia until August 1946 when she left the D'Oyly Carte for the second and last time. During her last two seasons with the Company she also filled in on occasion in the principal soprano roles of Patience in Patience (1944-45) and Gianetta in The Gondoliers (1945-46).
