Lillian Phillips in The Gondoliers

Lillian Phillips (1925-27)

[Born c.1897]

Mezzo-soprano chorister Lillian Phillips nearly spent a year (July 1925-June 1926) with the D'Oyly Carte Repertory Opera Company, and most of the following year (July 1926-June 1927) with the D'Oyly Carte "New" Opera Company. With the Repertory Company she appeared regularly as Vittoria in The Gondoliers between December 1925 and May 1926. With the "New" Company she substituted for Pauline Wooten as Kate in The Pirates of Penzance, the Lady Saphir in Patience, and Vittoria in The Gondoliers during the last week of the 1926-27 season.

When the "New" Company was disbanded in June 1927, Miss Phillips' career with the D'Oyly Carte organization ended. She later gave six performances as a singer in a production called The Three-Cornered Hat at London's His Majesty's Theatre, June-July 1928.
