THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Eric Poole as Counsel to the Plaintiff in Trial by Jury

Eric Poole (1921-23)

[Born 1898]

Eric Poole was a bass chorister with the D'Oyly Carte "New" Opera Company from June 1921 to November 1923. From March 1923 onward he appeared as Counsel for the Plaintiff in Trial by Jury and Giorgio in The Gondoliers.

Little is known about his career after leaving the D'Oyly Carte organization, though it seems he retained his interest in Gilbert & Sullivan. In 1956 he produced Trial by Jury and The Pirates of Penzance for the Refuge Assurance Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society in Manchester, appearing himself as the Learned Judge in Trial.
