THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Alexander Romanes (1891-94)

Baritone Alexander Romanes toured with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "B" from at least April 1891 to July 1894. His roles were John Dory in The Vicar of Bray (September 1892-April 1893), Barnabas Bellows-to-mend in Haddon Hall (November 1892-February 1894), and the dual roles of Captain Corcoran and Calynx in Utopia Limited (briefly, July 1894).

After leaving the D'Oyly Carte organization he appeared in London in the chorus of the comic opera The Bric-a-Brac Will (Lyric, October-December 1895). Romanes was married to D'Oyly Carte soprano Marie Ridgway.
