May Sanderson (1950-56)

Soprano May Sanderson joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in January 1950. In the 1950-1951 season she began to appear as Zorah in Ruddigore (sharing the role at first with Enid Walsh), then took the part as her own the following season. She would appear as Zorah for the remainder of her D'Oyly Carte career:until April 1956. She also assumed Fiametta in The Gondoliers starting in December 1954 (when Cynthia Morey was promoted to principal soprano), and made occasional appearances as Yum-Yum in The Mikado in the 1952-53 and 1954-55 seasons. She left the D'Oyly Carte in April 1956.

May Sanderson was married to fellow D'Oyly Carte chorister Harry Hughes.
