THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Grace Sherwood in Robinson Crusoe

Grace Sherwood (1881-82)

Grace Sherwood appeared often in opera, melodrama, and burlesque on the New York Stage from June 1880, when she debuted as Carlo in The Sea Cadet at the Fifth Avenue Theatre, until at least March 1894 when she was Pauline in Frou-Frou at the Garden Theatre.

Early in her career, she appeared at the Standard Theatre in D'Oyly Carte's New York casts of Billee Taylor (as a Charity Girl, February-May 1881), Claude Duval (chorus, March-April 1882), and Les Manteaux Noirs (chorus, September-October 1882). She may also have served in the chorus for Patience (September 1881-March 1882).
