Janet St. Claire trained at the Royal Academy of Music before joining the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in September 1969. At the time she was known as Janet Temperley, but soon adopted St. Claire as her stage name. She appeared in the small part of Vittoria in The Gondoliers on occasion in 1969-70, then took the role as her own the following season. She also filled in from time to time as Leila in Iolanthe and Peep-Bo in The Mikado in her second and last season. She left the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in August 1971.
