THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Edith Standen in The Talk of the Town

Edith Standen (1902-03)

Edith Standen appeared with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company as a dancer for the original productions of Merrie England (Savoy and on tour, April 1902-January 1903) and A Princess of Kensington (Savoy and on tour, January-September 1903).

Like many of the cast, she left the Company when the tour ended, moving to the Adelphi in December 1903 to appear as Lady Ethel in The Earl and the Girl, and later that month as the Little Mermaid in Little Hans Anderson, also at the Adelphi. She later appeared in the chorus on The Talk of the Town (Lyric, January-April 1905). In June 1906 she was among the crowd in court at a benefit matinee of Trial by Jury, part of the Ellen Terry Jubilee celebration.
