THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Wilfred Stelfox (1942-46, 1957-59)

Wilfred Stelfox was known by George Keates when he served with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus from April 1942 to August 1946. He filled in on occasion as Antonio in The Gondoliers during the 1945-46 season.

He returned to the D'Oyly Carte stage, as Wilfred Stelfox, during the 1956-57 season, remaining until May 1959. During his second tour, Stelfox was not a chorister, however, but a member of the wardrobe department who was pressed into service in the silent role of Mr. Bunthorne's Solicitor (beginning with the Patience revival in January 1957), and the non-solo singing part of the Associate in Trial by Jury (during his last season).
