John Wightman (1926-32)

Baritone John Wightman joined the D'Oyly Carte "New" Opera Company as a chorister in July 1926. When the "New" Company was disbanded in June 1927, he joined the remaining D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, serving in the chorus there until June 1932, and on at least one occasion (August 14, 1928) filling in for Leslie Rands as Strephon in Iolanthe.

He was married for a time to actress Elaine Inescort, who had a brief tour with the D'Oyly Carte in 1899. Their daughter, Frieda Inescort became a well-known stage and screen actress.
