Malcolm Williams (1973-74)

[Born Ferndale, Glamorgan, South Wales]

Tenor Malcolm Williams was engaged by the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in June 1973, going on that month for Ralph Mason as Ralph Rackstraw in H.M.S. Pinafore and Marco in The Gondoliers. He then replaced Mason at the end of the season and for the next year (July 1973-August 1974) appeared as Mr. Box in Cox and Box, Alexis in The Sorcerer, Ralph, the Duke of Dunstable in Patience, Earl Tolloller in Iolanthe, Richard Dauntless in Ruddigore, and Marco. During his brief stay with the Company, he appeared in the D'Oyly Carte's 1973 ATV film of H.M.S. Pinafore as Ralph, and recorded Tolloller in the Company's 1974 LP set of Iolanthe. He left the Company at the end of his first full season in August 1974.

Williams also appeared for a time with Welsh National Opera, Glyndebourne Touring Opera (1969 and 1971), and the London Opera Players.
