THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

(Mr.) J. Winterbottom (1884-85)

Mr. J. Winterbottom appeared as Guron (or, occasionally, Scynthius) in Princess Ida with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "A" ("Princess Ida" No. 1) Company from February 1884 to December 1885. He also filled in on at least one occasion for T. Noble Mouncey as Arac.

In 1890 he visited South America as a chorister with Edwin Cleary's English Comic Opera Company, appearing in Gilbert & Sullivan and other works in Buenas Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay.

Later, Winterbottom appeared in London as Jasper in the musical play Claude Du-Val (Prince of Wales's, 1894), and was a chorister in A Modern Don Quixote (Lyric, 1898) and Milord Sir Smith (Comedy, 1898-99).
