THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Dudley Yates (1887-91)

Dudley Yates was a tenor chorister on D’Oyly Carte’s Second Continental tour (November 1887-April 1888), with D’Oyly Carte Opera Company “E” on tour in April-December 1888, and with the main D’Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy beginning in December 1889. Bates remained at the Savoy until at least 1891 (through the original production of The Nautch Girl).

With Company “E,” Yates was an emergency replacement for a week as Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance and Nanki-Poo in The Mikado in Eastbourne in September 1888, filling the gap between Walter Fisher's departure and Frank Boyle's arrival.
