ACT I

No. 1: Chorus of Courtiers

MIDI File

SCENE: Gardens of KING PORTICO’s palace.  ZAPETER, JAMILEK, COURTIERS, etc., discovered.  All are very prim and precise in appearance.

Tenors & Basses.
This is a Court in which you’ll find
  The most respectable society;
To ev'ry fault we are all blind,
  Except the fault of impropriety.
Sopranos & Altos.
We pride ourselves upon our taste,
  It is indeed our only vanity;
Tenors & Basses.
We pride ourselves upon our taste,
  It is indeed our only vanity;
Sopranos & Altos.
This is a Court in which you’ll find
  The most respectable society;
To ev'ry fault we are all blind,
  Except the fault of impropriety.
Tenors & Basses.
We pride ourselves upon our taste,
  It is indeed our only vanity;
All.
And when in false positions placed,
And when in false positions placed,
  It almost drives us to insanity,
It drives us to insanity, insanity.
Sopranos & Altos.
This is a Court in which you’ll find
  The most respectable society;
To ev'ry fault we are all blind,
All.
  Except the fault of impropriety.
This is a Court in which you’ll find
  The most respectable society,

  respectable society.

                    This is a
              This is a     Court where you
        This is a     Court where you     never will
  This is a     Court where you     never will,     find but the
