No. 23 - Rustic Song - Rob Roy, Janet and Chorus

MIDI File

Rob Roy: When the lark is skyward winging,
Soaring high to heaven's gate,
When the early throstle's singing
Wakes his lazy, lazy little mate.
Janet: While the day-star still is showing,
But the glow-worm's light is gone;
Then you hear the plow-boy going
Through the meadow,
Thro' the meadow at the early dawn.
Then it's Blackbird!
Dinna watch from thorn or thistle,
Fie, ye spying Robin, fly away!
Both: Fly away!
Chorus: Don't ye hear the cheery piping whistle
Of the plow-boy faring gaily at the dawn of day.
Janet: Now fly away!
Rob Roy: Away! Robin, fly away!
Janet: Away! away!
  (whistle)

Janet: There's a lass, some think her bonny,
Daily comes to milk the kye;
Truth, she is as fair as mony,
Ye maun know that lass I mean is I.
Ev'ry morn she comes and meets him
With none ither by to see;
Ye had the kiss that greets him,
Ye were ever blithe and happy as my lad can be.
Then it's Blackbird!
Dinna watch from thorn or thistle,
Fie, ye spying Robin, fly away!
Both: Fly away!
Chorus: Don't ye hear the cheery piping whistle
Of the plow-boy faring gaily at the dawn of day.
Janet: Now fly away!
Rob Roy: Away! Robin, fly away!
Janet: Away! away!
  (whistle)
